    André Comte-Sponville is one of the most widely read and translated French philosophers in the world. He defines himself as a materialist (” in the manner of Epicurus ‘), a rationalist (’ in the manner of Spinoza ‘) and a humanist (’ in the manner of Montaigne ”). He offers a wisdom for our times.
    Born in 1952 in Paris, a former student of the École normale supérieure de la rue d'Ulm, aggregated in philosophy and Ph.D. in philosophy. He was a lecturer at the Université Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne) from 1984 to 1998, before devoting further time to his writing and giving lectures outside the university. He was a member of the National Consultative Ethics Committee for Health and Life Science (CCNE) from 2008 to 2016. He is now an editorial writer for Challenges magazine, to which he contributes weekly, and Managing Director of the Institut Diderot.
    André Comte-Sponville has published over thirty books, including the well-known “A Small Treatise on the Great Virtues: The Uses of Philosophy in Everyday Life”, “The Book of Atheist Spirituality” and “The Little Book of Philosophy”.
